From the soil to the quay

A potato carries a chain of decisions: the variety, the soil, the weather, the harvest, the storage and the transport. Every link of the chain is important, and we manage each one with the same care, from the first day in the field to the last mile with our partners west Africa.

Amsterdam Commodity House is founded by three entrepreneurs with one conviction: trading at the highest level starts with knowledge. We know the growers, we know the fields, and we know exactly when a batch is ready for the journey. We own the process from field to arrival, and when something needs attention, we handle it quickly and efficiently. This way, our partners can trust the outcome to meet our quality standards.

Heritage that goes back generations

The Netherlands is a small country with an outsized reputation: the second-largest exporter of agricultural goods in the world, built on land reclaimed from the sea and perfected over centuries. Dutch growers have spent generations mastering the potato, refining varieties, soil management and storage techniques that set the global standard. Dutch potatoes are trusted by clients on every continent.

With this knowledge we look forward to to build long-term partnerships with importers and traders who know their own markets best. Our job is to deliver products they can build on; precise, patient, and with follow-through. We start in Senegal, and we grow from there together with our partners.

Working with the Senegalese season

Senegal grows its own potatoes, mostly in the Niayes, along the coast between Dakar and Saint-Louis. When the local harvest comes in, the market belongs to local growers; that is how it should be. We ship in the months between, and we plan our calendar around theirs.

Our partners in Senegal know their customers, their markets and their timing better than anyone in Amsterdam. They tell us which sizes sell, when demand peaks, what the heat does to a batch after arrival. We listen, and we adjust. Good trade works for both sides of the quay.
